Jammu-Srinagar National Highway Closes After Landslides, Shooting Stones


Srinagar, Oct 17 (KNS): The Srinagar-Jammu National Highway, NH-44, has been temporarily closed due to extensive landslides and shooting stones in Ramban district, officials said here on Tuesday.

An official told the Kashmir News Service (KNS), that these incidents were triggered by incessant heavy rainfall in the area since Monday, leading to the obstruction of vital transportation routes.

"Efforts are underway to clear the road and ensure the safety of commuters," the official said, adding that further updates regarding the reopening of the highway will be provided as the situation develops.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel 

Authorities are urging travelers to exercise caution and patience during this period of disruption on one of the region's most critical roadways.

Deputy Commissioner of Ramban, Mussarat Zia in a post on  X, previously known as Twitter. She confirmed the closure, stating, "Highway update: NH-44 is currently blocked at Dhalwas and Cafeteria Morh due to landslides and shooting stones, caused by the continuous heavy rains. Road clearance operations are already in progress."(KNS)
