Srinagar, November 28 (KNS): Jammu and Kashmir has received a total allocation of Rs 5,835 crore under the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS) over the past five years to modernize and strengthen its power distribution infrastructure, Union Minister for Power and Housing & Urban Affairs, Manohar Lal informed the Parliament on Thursday.
Launched in July 2021 by the Government of India, RDSS focuses on improving the operational efficiency and financial stability of power distribution utilities, reducing technical and commercial losses, and ensuring a reliable power supply across the country.
The Union Minister highlighted that the allocation for Jammu and Kashmir includes Rs 1,064 crore earmarked for metering projects and Rs 4,294 crore for reducing losses.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelOut of the total allocation, Rs 4,566 crore has been granted as Gross Budgetary Support (GBS).
"The funds aim to enhance the operational efficiency and financial sustainability of power distribution utilities in the region while reducing losses and improving power reliability," the Minister said.
He further stated that significant strides have been made in electrifying households under the Pradhan Mantri Sahaj Bijli Har Ghar Yojana (Saubhagya). Over the past five years and the current year, all willing un-electrified households in rural areas and urban poor households in Jammu and Kashmir have been provided with electricity access, benefiting a large number of residents.
