Srinagar, Sep 30 (KNS): The seven-day Autumn Session of the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly was "unfortunate and historic for the wrong reasons," Leader of Opposition Sunil Sharma said on Wednesday, accusing the National Conference (NC) government of mocking public expectations and sabotaging the long-pending demand for Statehood by linking it to the pre-1953 position and Article 370.
Addressing media persons on the last day of the session here, Sharma said every section of society — including daily wagers, NHM and contractual employees, NYC, ASHA and Anganwadi workers, and the common masses — had expected the government to address their grievances, but "not a single issue was answered."
"We collected issues from every district and raised them, but the NC government remained silent," he said.
Hitting out at Chief Minister Omar Abdullah for describing the session as "fruitful," Sharma asked, "Fruitful from which angle? You dashed the hopes of all sections. People were waiting for your Statehood resolution, which you chant as an answer to every question."
Reiterating the BJP's commitment to Statehood "as per its agenda," Sharma alleged, "You sabotage the Statehood of common people by linking it with the pre-1953 position and Article 370."
"After the abrogation of Article 370, all confusion is over and the full Constitution of India is implemented in J&K.

He recalled that when late Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah demanded a separate Constitution and a separate Flag, then Prime Minister late Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru jailed him for 22 years.
Questioning the Congress leadership, "from Rahul Gandhi to Mallikarjun Kharge," Sharma asked, "What is your stand on this resolution seeking Statehood with pre-1953 and Article 370? Do you want to divide India again and bring separatism back? By supporting this unconstitutional resolution, Congress has unmasked itself and should be ashamed. The nation is asking how can they support this."
Sharma also questioned the Speaker over the rule under which such a resolution was allowed in the Assembly despite being declared illegal by the Law Department, and demanded that the Speaker step down on moral grounds for permitting such bills.
He said the people of J&K are "deeply hurt" by this "shameful act," and that the BJP has prepared a dossier, being submitted to the government through the Assembly, exposing each promise.
"Even today, 13,000 posts are vacant and the NC government is unable to utilise PSC and SSRB efficiently," he added. (KNS)
