New Delhi, Dec 4 (KNS): Minister of Rural Development, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, informed the Lok Sabha that Jammu and Kashmir currently has pending Fund Transfer Orders (FTOs) amounting to Rs 3,610.19 lakh under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) for the ongoing financial year.
Chouhan explained that MGNREGS is a demand-driven wage employment scheme in which states and Union Territories (UTs) submit fund proposals to the central government. The Ministry of Rural Development, based on several factors including the "Agreed to Labour Budget," work demand, fund utilization rates, and overall performance, releases funds periodically in two tranches.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelThese funds are disbursed in installments as per the requirements.
In a bid to improve the scheme’s efficiency, Chouhan also highlighted the mandatory implementation of the Aadhaar-Based Payment System (ABPS) for all MGNREGS beneficiaries from January 1, 2024. The move aims to ensure faster, safer, and timely wage disbursements.
Additionally, the National Mobile Monitoring System (NMMS) is now being used to capture real-time attendance of workers, enhancing monitoring and transparency in the execution of the scheme. (KNS)
