Srinagar, Sep 14 (KNS) : Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Conference (JKPC) General Secretary and President of the All J&K Shia Association, Molvi Imran Ansari, has expressed serious concern over the alleged landfilling and encroachment of Brari Nambal, stressing that partial demolition alone cannot be allowed to become an “eye wash.”
Writing on X, Ansari said that, as reported by Greater Kashmir, landfilling had allegedly continued for nearly 15 days, raising serious questions about who brought the material, who carried out the filling and how the activity was allowed to continue without timely intervention.
“The person responsible must be identified, the entire filling removed and the waterbody restored at the encroacher’s cost,” Ansari said, calling for a proper investigation into the violation. He further demanded that wherever offences are established, FIRs and prosecution should follow.
Ansari said that the authorities must also examine any failure of monitoring that allowed the damage to continue.
“Partially demolishing what was built after allowing the damage to happen is not enough. We need accountability for the original act as well as for any failure of monitoring,” he said.
Emphasising the need to protect Kashmir’s remaining water bodies for future generations, Ansari said, “We need to keep something for our generation.

He stressed that protecting water bodies does not require the restoration of statehood, but rather political will, administrative seriousness and responsible citizenship.
“Protecting water bodies, enforcing existing laws and holding violators accountable requires political will, administrative seriousness and responsible citizenship,” Ansari said.
Quoting the Qur’an, Ansari said, “And We made from water every living thing.” (Qur’an 21:30) He added that water is both a trust and a source of life, and that protecting it is not merely an environmental responsibility but also a moral responsibility.
Ansari urged the Hon’ble Chief Minister of J&K to take cognisance of the matter and called upon the concerned authorities, including the Srinagar Police, Lakes Conservation and Management Authority (LCMA), Srinagar Municipal Corporation and Srinagar Administration, to ensure that the waterbody is fully restored and those responsible are held accountable.
