Srinagar, Nov 1 (KNS) : The much-awaited Kashmir to Kanyakumari (K2K) Cycling Expedition was ceremoniously flagged off today from TRC Stadium, Srinagar, by Ms. Nuzhat Gul, Secretary, Jammu & Kashmir Sports Council. The event marks the celebration of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s 150th birth anniversary, symbolizing the spirit of national integration and unity that the Iron Man of India envisioned.

A total of 150 cyclists from across India have embarked on this remarkable journey, including 20 women and one cyclist from Kashmir, Rafiq Ahmad. Adding to the inspiration is Tamim Ansari, a para-cyclist from Chennai, whose participation stands as a testament to determination and inclusivity in Indian sports.

Over the next 18 days, the cyclists will traverse 4,249 kilometres pedalling through diverse terrains, climates, and cultures as they move from the serene valleys of Kashmir to the southern tip of Kanyakumari. The expedition embodies the message of “One Nation, One Spirit, One Journey”, inspiring youth across India to embrace fitness, resilience, and national pride.

The event has been organized with the support of the Jammu & Kashmir Sports Council, Fit India Movement, Sports Authority of India, and the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India. The expedition also aims to promote the Fit India campaign and raise awareness about the importance of an active lifestyle.

The flag-off ceremony at TRC Stadium witnessed an atmosphere charged with enthusiasm, patriotism, and emotion. Young athletes, sports enthusiasts, and local citizens cheered the cyclists as they began their long journey from the heart of Srinagar, carrying with them the hopes, blessings, and goodwill of the entire nation.

The K2K Cycling Expedition stands as a vibrant symbol of how sports continue to connect hearts and bridge distances from the snowy mountains of Kashmir to the sunlit shores of Kanyakumari uniting India in motion, spirit, and purpose.(KNS)
