JAMMU, August 8 (KNS): Kavinder Gupta, senior BJP leader and former Deputy Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, today fervently endorsed the Waqf Amendment Bill, highlighting its transformative potential to infuse transparency and accountability into the operations of Waqf Boards.
In a statement issued here today, the senior BJP leader firmly dispelled misconceptions, clarifying that the Bill is a progressive measure and not an intrusion into the management of mosques.
"The Waqf Amendment Bill stands as a beacon of commitment of Modi government to bring transparency and good governance within the Waqf Boards. The accusations suggesting that this Bill seeks to interfere with religious practices are utterly baseless. The sole intention of Modi Govt is to establish a framework where transparency and accountability are paramount, ensuring the proper management of Waqf properties that have long been plagued by inefficiency and corruption."
Kavinder said that the proposed amendments to the Wakf Act, 1995, include groundbreaking changes, notably the inclusion of Muslim women and non-Muslims in Waqf Boards. He emphasized that this initiative aligns with the government's unwavering dedication to gender equality and inclusivity.
"Introducing representation for Muslim women and non-Muslims within Waqf Boards is a historic move that reflects the dedication of Modi Govt to fostering an inclusive governance structure," he said, adding that this is not just a legislative change; it is a step towards a more just and equitable society.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
The former deputy Chief Minister sharply criticized opposition parties for their attempts to politicize the Bill and spread misinformation. "It is disheartening to witness certain opposition factions resorting to fear-mongering and communal rhetoric. Their efforts to mislead the public are transparent ploys to create division where none exists. There is no communal agenda here, only a steadfast commitment to transparency and inclusivity," he declared.
He further underscored that amendments to the Wakf Act have occurred multiple times since independence, each time with the aim of refining the governance of Waqf properties. "This is not an unprecedented move; the Wakf Act has been amended several times since independence, always with the objective of enhancing the efficiency and transparency of Waqf Boards. The current amendments are a continuation of this process, driven by the same principles of good governance," he added.
Kavinder Gupta urged all stakeholders to rally behind the Waqf Amendment Bill and contribute to its successful implementation. "I implore all responsible citizens and stakeholders to support this Bill. Together, we can ensure that it fulfills its promise of bringing transparency, accountability, and inclusivity to the management of Waqf properties. This is a decisive step towards strengthening the fabric of our society," he concluded.(KNS)
