Kralgund Sub-District Hospital Struggles with Severe Staff Shortage, Locals Demand Immediate Action

Handwara, Dec 6 (KNS): The Kralgund Sub-District Hospital, despite being upgraded, is grappling with a severe shortage of medical staff, leaving thousands of local residents without proper healthcare services. While the hospital's board was changed following its upgrade, the much-needed staff has yet to be deployed, leaving the community in distress.

According to local residents, the hospital, which serves a population of over 40,000 people, has only one surgeon available once a week. As a result, many locals are forced to travel to Government Medical College (GMC) Handwara or Baramulla for even minor checkups.

This situation is especially dire for those needing urgent care, as the travel burden adds to the already limited access to healthcare in the region.

In addition to the shortage of surgeons, the hospital's gynecologist is also available only once a week. This has caused significant concern among women in the area, particularly those who require regular consultations and medical care during pregnancy.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

"We were hopeful that the hospital upgrade would bring some relief, but all we’ve seen so far is a change in the hospital’s signboard," said a local resident. "Our expectations were high, but the reality is that we are still facing the same challenges, with no adequate medical staff to support us."

The locals have now raised their voices, urging authorities to provide sufficient staffing to meet the growing healthcare needs of the community. With limited access to essential services, many feel neglected and are calling for immediate intervention to ensure that the hospital can fulfill its role as a crucial healthcare provider for the sub-district.

“We need doctors, specialists, and medical staff on a regular basis. It is unacceptable for a hospital to remain understaffed when so many people depend on it for their health,” said another resident. (KNS)
