Leh, September 19 (KNS): Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh Vinai Kumar Saxena has empowered Naib-Tehsildars holding independent charge of a Tehsil to issue Reserved Category Certificates and Income Certificates within their respective jurisdictions.

The move is aimed at decentralising the certification process and making essential government services more accessible to residents, particularly those living in remote and far-flung areas of Ladakh.

The Revenue Department, UT Ladakh, issued a notification under the proviso to Section 13 of the Jammu and Kashmir Reservation Act, 2004, empowering designated Naib-Tehsildars to issue the certificates within their local limits.

The powers have been vested in Naib-Tehsildars holding independent charge of a Tehsil and exercising the powers of Assistant Collector of the First Class.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

The administration said the decision would reduce the need for residents to travel long distances to obtain certificates required for government schemes, reservations, welfare benefits and other administrative purposes.

“Where difficult terrain and long distances can make access to government offices challenging, it is our responsibility to take governance closer to the people,” the L-G said.

He said empowering revenue officers at the local level would make citizen services more accessible and reduce the need for people to undertake long journeys for routine administrative requirements. (KNS)
