Bandipora April 11 (KNS): During the isolating days of the pandemic, when the world came to a standstill, Shazia Anees a 27 year old from Plan Bandipora discovered a new rhythm in life—one shaped by the elegant strokes of calligraphy. With a master’s degree in English Literature, Shazia was already in love with language, but it was during those quiet, reflective months that she stumbled upon the art of turning words into visual beauty. What began as a hobby born out of solitude soon grew into a passionate calling.
“I’ve always been drawn to beautiful, detailed things,” Shazia shares in a conversation with Kashmir News Service (KNS). “Calligraphy felt like the perfect mix of art and emotion. There’s something so calming about turning words into visual art—it makes the meaning feel even deeper.”
Shazia’s style draws deep inspiration from traditional calligraphic scripts, admired for their elegance and discipline. She also looks up to seasoned calligraphers whose precision and creativity motivate her to constantly refine her work. But at its core, her art is emotional and intuitive. “I let the mood of what I’m writing guide the style,” she explains. “It’s more about how it feels than how it looks.”
A self-taught artist, Shazia has never received formal training in calligraphy. “Alhamdulillah, I’ve learned everything on my own,” she shares proudly.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelThrough trial and error, she’s discovered the tools that work best for her. Whether it’s pens, inks, or paper, she chooses based on what feels right and inspires her at the moment.
Patience, she admits, is the most challenging part of her creative process. “I want every piece to be perfect, but calligraphy teaches you to embrace imperfection. It’s a humbling journey.”
Every project holds meaning for her, making it impossible to pick a favorite. “Each piece is special in its own way,” she says. As she looks ahead, Shazia envisions a journey guided by passion—continuing to explore new styles, sharing her art with others, and deepening her creative expression.
Calligraphy has also influenced her personal life. It has become a practice of mindfulness, teaching her to slow down and focus. “It helps me approach life’s challenges with more intention and care. And sometimes, it gives me a way to express emotions I can’t put into words.”
Among the many verses and quotes she loves to write, one holds a special place in her heart: “And Allah is going to give you, and you’ll be satisfied.”
In a world that often moves too fast, Shazia Anees has found her peace in the delicate balance of ink and paper—where beauty, meaning, and emotion come together, one stroke at a time.(KNS)
