Srinagar, Oct 5 (KNS): Lieutenant General Prashant Srivastava on Saturday assumed command of the Chinar Corps.
He took over from Lt Gen Rajiv Ghai, who served as the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the Chinar Corps for the past 16 months and has now moved to Army Headquarters to take up the role of Director General of Military Operations.
A spokesperson of the Chinar Corps said that during his tenure, Lt Gen Ghai oversaw several crucial operations, including two incident-free Amarnath Yatras, the 2024 Parliamentary Elections, and the long-awaited Jammu and Kashmir Assembly Elections, held for the first time in ten years.
Under his leadership, the Chinar Corps played a significant role in counter-infiltration operations along the Line of Control (LoC) and counter-terrorism operations within the Kashmir Valley, dealing major blows to the terror network in the region, he said.

Lieutenant General Prashant Srivastava, a seasoned soldier with over 34 years of military experience, has extensive expertise in counter-insurgency and counter-terrorist operations, having served in both Jammu and Kashmir and the North East.
He has previously commanded the Counter Insurgency Force (Victor) in South Kashmir. On assuming command, Lt Gen Srivastava paid tribute at the Chinar War Memorial in Srinagar, honouring the sacrifices of the fallen soldiers.
In his message, the new GOC reaffirmed his commitment to working closely with the civil administration and local communities to build a peaceful and prosperous future for Kashmir. He urged the people to join hands with the security forces in overcoming the challenges posed by terrorism and contributing to the region’s peace and stability.(KNS)
