Srinagar, August 23 (KNS): The Member Secretary, Central Silk Board (CSB), Government of India P. Sivakumar (IFS),who is on an official visit to Jammu and Kashmir chaired a high level meeting today at the Directorate of Sericulture Dev. Department J&K, TulsiBagh,Srinagar. The meeting was attended by senior officials from the department, led by Ajaz Ahmad Bhat, IAS, Director of Sericulture J&K.
During the meeting, the Director Sericulture J&K, Ajaz Ahmad Bhat provided a detailed summary of the various initiatives being undertaken by the department. He outlined the strategic steps that have been implemented to enhance cocoon production, which is a vital component of J&K's sericulture industry. The Director emphasized the department's focus on sustainable and innovative methods to increase productivity and improve the quality of cocoons produced in the region. Besides, the Director, Sericulture J&K also apprised the Member Secretary about the various programmes of the Department which include mass awareness, skill development, extensive plantation drives, reachout initiatives of the department to cater people in tribal areas in J&K, Infrastructure Development, establishment of community halls for Silkworm Rearing and Silkworm Seed Production at large scale etc.
A key highlight of the meeting was the in-depth discussion on the development of the post-cocoon sector in J&K. The Member Secretary and the department officers deliberated on strategies to establish robust infrastructure for processing cocoons, which would enable value addition within the Union Territory.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelThis initiative aims to not only boost the local Silk Industry but also create employment opportunities and enhance the economic prosperity of Silkworm Rearers, Farmers, Youth, Womenand other stakeholders involved in the Sericulture Sector.
Later in the day, the Member Secretary interacted with various Silkworm Rearersand Reelers. He took the opportunity to listen to their experiences and concerns, and assured them of the Central Silk Board's full support in addressing their needs. He encouraged the Silkworm Rearersand Reelersto continue their efforts towards achieving excellence in silk production and advised them to maintain close contact with the Sericulture Development Department of J&K for any further assistance or queries.
The visit of the Member Secretary to J&K is seen as a significant step towards strengthening the sericulture sector in the region, with a focus on boosting Cocoon production, enhancing quality, and ensuring the holistic development of the industry.
