Srinagar, Jan 13 (KNS): MLA Budgam Aga Syed Muntazir Mehdi has written to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, urging the government to fulfil its assurance regarding the establishment of a National Law University (NLU) in Budgam.
In his letter, Aga Syed Muntazir Mehdi referred to the Chief Minister’s recent public remarks in which Omar Abdullah stated that the matter concerning the establishment of the National Law University was still pending and under consideration.
The MLA said the statement has revived hope among the people of Budgam, particularly the youth.
The MLA recalled that Budgam was earlier assured the establishment of the prestigious institution and said the announcement was received with “immense hope and trust” by the people of the constituency.
He wrote that the assurance was seen not merely as an administrative decision but as a step towards balanced regional development in central Kashmir.
Aga Syed Muntazir Mehdi said the proposed National Law University would play a crucial role in strengthening legal education in the region, besides creating new academic and professional opportunities for local youth.

He added that setting up the institution in Budgam would help nurture legal talent and contribute to educational empowerment.
In the letter, the Budgam MLA requested the Chief Minister to stand by the commitment made earlier and approve the establishment of the National Law University in the constituency.
He said fulfilling the assurance would strengthen public trust in governance and reinforce the belief that promises made by leadership are honoured.
The MLA further wrote that such a decision would be remembered as an act of statesmanship, fairness and commitment towards a region that has long aspired for higher educational institutions of national importance.
Expressing hope, Aga Syed Muntazir Mehdi said he believes that under the Chief Minister’s leadership, the long-pending demand of the people of Budgam will be realised.
He said approving the National Law University would mark a significant step towards fulfilling the educational aspirations of the constituency.(KNS)
