Moulana Akhzar Hussain Appeals for Recognition of Contributions to Sufism, Shrine Protection

Srinagar, Apr 19 (KNS): Patron of J&K Anjuman Ulmaie Aehnaf, Moulana Peerzada Akhzar Hussain, has appealed to the government and concerned authorities not to overlook the contributions of those who have dedicated their lives to the protection of Sufism and shrines across Jammu and Kashmir.

Speaking to the media, Peerzada Akhzar Hussain said that after rendering 41 years of service — first under the Auqaf and now the Waqf Board — he welcomes the government’s decision to honour individuals, but stressed that the government must not forget those who stood firm for the preservation of Sufi traditions during challenging times.

Hussain said he has served at several revered shrines including Dargah Hazratbal, Asari Sharief Kalashpora, Markazi Gadyar Zaina Kadal, and Syed Shab Sunwar, and that his efforts, along with others, have always been focused on promoting peace, prosperity, and safeguarding spiritual heritage, even when no one else came forward.

“We have worked selflessly to protect shrines and Sufism when others were hesitant.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelThe government must not overlook this,” he said.

He further recalled that during a previously held Sufism Conference, his decades of service were ignored, which he described as disheartening. Hussain appealed to the Lieutenant Governor to personally verify his track record and the work he and his organization have carried out over the years, especially in the fight against the drug menace since 2007.

While appreciating the efforts of the Jammu and Kashmir Police under the LG administration in tackling drug abuse, Peerzada Hussain emphasized that those who have safeguarded shrines and promoted Sufism during difficult phases deserve equal recognition.

“I am not against anyone receiving awards, but I urge concerned organizations to rethink their choices before honouring juniors while sidelining those who have spent decades serving the community,” he added. (KNS)
