MP Mian Altaf Urges Government to Release Shabir Shah on Humanitarian Ground

Srinagar, June 24 (KNS): Member of Parliament Mian Altaf on Tuesday said that he has received a letter from the family of Shabir Shah highlighting his deteriorating health condition. Given his age and medical status, Altaf strongly urged the government to consider his release.

Speaking to the media, Mian Altaf stated, "I am a Member of Parliament from Anantnag, and people from my constituency are consistently raising concerns regarding the continued detention of Shabir Shah."

He also said that i have also received a letter from Shabir Shah himself, and his health is deteriorating. I strongly urge the government to look into his case and release him."

Altaf further said that based on what has been observed and understood about Shabir Shah, there doesn’t appear to be any criminal justification for his prolonged detention.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel“If he cannot be kept in Kashmir, at the very least, he should be allowed to stay in Delhi and be with his family at this stage of his life. That is important,” he emphasized.

The MP also commented on the ongoing political situation in Jammu and Kashmir, saying that the lack of statehood has created an atmosphere of uncertainty. “This shouldn’t be the case. At the same time, the government should operate transparently, assert its authority, and keep the public informed about the challenges it faces—whether they stem from the bureaucracy or elsewhere. This will help provide clarity to the public,” he added.
