NC Allies Meet to Break Logjam, Strategy Session Underway

"May likely seek extension of Assembly session"

"May likely seek extension of Assembly session"

JAMMU, Apr 9 (KNS): Amid continued disruption in the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, the ruling National Conference (NC) and its alliance partners have gathered for a crucial strategy meeting this morning to resolve the ongoing deadlock that has stalled proceedings for the past two days.

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah is also expected to attend the meeting and later join the Assembly session. He was in Srinagar and had missed the proceedings on Monday and Tuesday.

No legislative business could be conducted over the last two days due to protests by Alliance members demanding a discussion on the Waqf Bill — a request turned down by Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather citing procedural rules.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

Sources told KNS that if a consensus is reached today, the government may seek a two-day extension of the session to accommodate pending business, including key resolutions on the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood and private members' bills.

As per the official calendar, the budget session that began on March 3 is scheduled to conclude today after 21 sittings. (KNS)
