Udhampur, May 26 (KNS) : National Conference Additional General Secretary and former minister, Ajay Kumar Sadhotra, reaffirmed the party’s commitment to the holistic development of remote and far-flung areas, emphasizing that improving the ease of living for people in these regions remains a top priority for the present popular government of Jammu and Kashmir under the leadership of Omar Abdullah.
Addressing a public meeting organized by Akash Verma and Gulzar Ahmad Wani at Lati in Udhampur District, Sadhotra recalled the sustained efforts of successive National Conference governments in placing the entire Lati area on the developmental map of J&K. He highlighted how then Chief Minister Sher-e-Kashmir Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah advanced the area’s progress by nominating Wazira Begum for two consecutive terms, a mission Sadhotra pledged to continue with full dedication.
He asserted that inclusive development lies at the heart of the National Conference's philosophy, aimed at bridging the rural-urban divide and ensuring equal opportunities for every section of society. The party, he said, has consistently advocated policies that uplift underdeveloped regions and ensure basic amenities reach the last person in the queue.
Lauding the developmental initiatives under Omar Abdullah’s leadership, Sadhotra stated, “The Omar Abdullah-led government is operating in mission mode to promote growth, productivity, and infrastructure development across Jammu and Kashmir. The vision is to address unemployment and economically empower every citizen, regardless of religion, region, or caste.”
Responding to local grievances raised by residents, Sadhotra assured them that he would take up the matter concerning the resumption of the Sudh Mahadev–Marmat Tunnel project. He noted that the project holds the potential to significantly reduce travel distances, enhance connectivity, and open up new avenues for agriculture and economic growth in the peripheral areas.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
He also endorsed the local demand for establishing an Industrial Training Institute (ITI) in the area to facilitate skill development and improve employment opportunities for local youth. Stressing the importance of technical and vocational education, he said such initiatives are essential to address unemployment and equip young people with industry-relevant skills.
Moreover, Sadhotra supported the youth’s demand for a sports stadium at Lati, emphasizing that providing constructive spaces for young people will channel their energy in the right direction.
Addressing healthcare and education concerns, Sadhotra called for the establishment of a Primary Health Centre (PHC) at Lati to cater to the healthcare needs of surrounding areas, while underlining the necessity of accessible, quality health services. He further advocated for adequate staffing in local schools, asserting that quality education requires both infrastructure and sufficient teaching staff to secure a better future for the next generation.
Reiterating the National Conference’s commitment to grassroots engagement, Sadhotra pledged to carry the voice of the people into policy-making forums. He assured the locals that their concerns would be raised with the relevant authorities for swift redressal.
