Jammu, Sep 10 (KNS): The alliance between the National Conference (NC) and Congress in Jammu and Kashmir has been hit by internal tensions following derogatory remarks made by former J&K Congress President Vikar Rasool Wani against the NC.
Wani, while addressing a public convention in Banihal, lashed out at the NC, accusing the party of exploiting the people. "You come out to fool people. You have sucked our blood, the red flag is a flag of blood." Wani said in Banihal which stirred controversy within the alliance just ahead of the elections.
Sources within the Congress Party told Kashmir News Service (KNS) that NC and Congress leadership have called for an urgent meeting in Jammu today evening to address the issue. Senior National Conference and Congress leaders, are expected to participate in the meeting.
The remarks have drawn widespread criticism from both parties, with the Congress distancing itself from Wani's comments. "The Congress Party disassociates itself from such statements and condemns the use of such language," said J&K Pradesh Congress Committee President Tariq Hameed Karra.
He further added that the language used by Vikar Rasool Wani during the Banihal event was "unparliamentary and unbecoming of a leader in such a significant alliance."
Karra, currently in New Delhi, is expected to arrive in Jammu this evening to personally oversee the situation.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
According to sources, Karra intends to ensure that the alliance remains intact despite the controversy, noting that "internal disputes should not derail the focus from the larger political objectives."
Sources within the NC, speaking on condition of anonymity, expressed disappointment over Wani's remarks but remained hopeful that the matter could be resolved amicably.
“These remarks were uncalled for, especially at a time when unity is crucial,” said a senior NC leader.
He further said that the alliance is essential to the political landscape of Jammu and Kashmir, and efforts should be made to preserve it.
The NC-Congress alliance, formed to counter the growing influence of the BJP in Jammu and Kashmir, has been seen as a critical player in the upcoming elections. However, Wani's public outburst has raised questions about the internal cohesion of the alliance.
The meeting in Jammu this evening is expected to play a pivotal role in determining the future of the alliance. Leaders from both parties are expected to discuss damage control strategies and reaffirm their commitment to their shared political goals.
Sources suggest that a formal statement may be issued following the meeting to clarify the position of both parties and address the fallout from Wani's remarks.(KNS)
