Srinagar, Aug 26 (KNS): In a strategic move ahead of the upcoming Jammu and Kashmir elections, the National Conference (NC) and the Indian National Congress have announced a seat-sharing agreement aimed at consolidating their positions and maximizing their electoral prospects.
Under the deal, the National Conference will contest 51 out of the 90 seats, while the Congress will field candidates in 32 constituencies. Five seats will see friendly contests between the two parties, and one seat each will be contested by the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPIM) and the Panthers Party in Jammu.
The announcement was made jointly by NC President Farooq Abdullah and KC Vennugopal, General Secretary of the Congress, and state congress president Tariq Hameed Kara who addressed a press conference in Srinagar to unveil the details of their alliance.
Farooq Abdullah expressed his commitment to the alliance, emphasizing its goal of combating divisive forces in the region.
“We are entering into this formula to fight together and win the elections. Our primary objective is to save the people of Kashmir from those who seek to create discord and division,” Abdullah stated.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
“The NC and Congress are united in this effort, and we will work together to ensure that our shared vision for the development and security of Jammu and Kashmir is realized.”
KC Vennugopal echoed Abdullah's sentiments, highlighting the strategic importance of the alliance. “We are committed to working together as a united front. The seat-sharing agreement is a step towards ensuring that we effectively address the challenges faced by the people of Jammu and Kashmir,” Vennugopal said. “Our collaboration reflects our understanding and mutual respect, and we believe it will lead to a successful outcome in the elections.”
Tariq Hameed Karra, reinforced the spirit of the alliance. “The essence of our alliance is to save the people of Kashmir. We understand each other’s perspectives and are united in our mission,” Karra remarked. “We are determined to fight this election together and achieve victory for the benefit of the people.”(KNS)
