Srinagar, 12 Sept (KNS) : TheJammu and Kashmir National Womens Wing President and MLA Habba Kadal Saturday tge historic role played by the National Conference in liberating the people of Jammu and Kashmir from poverty, deprivation, indebtedness, begar, Chakdari and illiteracy, bringing revolutionary changes in their lives and taking education to every household can never be forgotten.
She stated this while inaugurating the newly constructed building of Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Aishai Kocha, Fateh Kadal, today.
The new building has been constructed at a cost of ?1.28 crore. The old structure had become highly dilapidated, making the construction of a new building imperative. Through the efforts of MLA Shameema Firdous, the construction was completed within a short period of just seven months.
The three-storey building comprises 11 classrooms, a hall and 10 bathrooms. Other essential facilities, including CCTV surveillance for the safety and security of students, have also been provided.
Addressing prominent citizens, party functionaries, teachers and students on the occasion, Shameema Firdous said that the present government, led by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, is making every possible effort and utilising all available resources to promote education and strengthen educational infrastructure across Jammu and Kashmir.
She urged teachers to treat all students as their own children and ensure not only quality education but also special attention to their character building, moral development and overall personality development.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
She said that when Sher-e-Kashmir Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah began his mission of spreading education and making it accessible to all sections of society, the literacy rate in the region was extremely low, at around six per cent, while educational opportunities remained largely restricted to affluent and privileged families. Poor and marginalised sections were deprived of this basic right.
Sher-e-Kashmir, she said, sought to transform this situation by making education an instrument of social change, political awareness and people’s empowerment.
Shameema Firdous said that the National Conference, under the leadership of Sher-e-Kashmir Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah and Madar-e-Meherban, made the promotion of education one of its fundamental priorities. The establishment of schools, expansion of educational opportunities, improving access to education for children from poor and disadvantaged sections, and efforts to create educational awareness among the masses laid the foundation for a society in which education gradually became a right accessible to the common people.
Senior officials of the Education Department, including CEO Ghulam Mohiuddin Butt, Cluster Principal Dr Masooda, representatives of SCR&B and others were also present on the occasion.(KNS)
