Srinagar, Mar 28 (KNS): National Conference (NC) is all set to field local leader from Kupwara district for Baramulla constituency in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections which are scheduled to be held in the months of April and May 2024.
Sources told to Kashmir News Service (KNS) that among two local former ministers one is likely to be chosen to contest Lok Sabha elections from Baramulla constituency however the final call will be taken in coming days.
Sources also refuted the speculations that NC Vice-President Omar Abdullah will contest LS polls from north Kashmir seat and leave room to his political opponents in central Kashmir Lok Sabha seat.
“There has been a threadbare discussion on the matter. The party leaders have submitted a list of candidates to the high command who are supposed to contest elections in all three seats of Kashmir valley,” the sources said.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
“The party workers of district Kupwara are on a same page and want to field local candidate from district Kupwara keeping the local political competition into account,” he said.
“Party VP Omar Abdullah is all set to contest polls from central Kashmir, while former minister of Ganderbal district Mian Altaf will fight Lok Sabha elections from south Kashmir seat,” he said.
He clarified that as far as north Kashmir’s Lok Sabha seat is concerned either Chowdhary Mohammad Ramazan or Mir Saifullah will be the party’s candidate. The deliberations are on and soon any decision will take place,” he revealed.
With 11.47 lakh voters, Baramulla seat is spread over 16 assembly segments of four districts Baramulla, Kupwara, Bandipora and Budgam. (KNS)
