NC Was Behind BJP Victory in RS Polls: Sajad Lone

Srinagar, Oct 25 (KNS): Peoples Conference Chairman and MLA Handwara, Sajad Gani Lone on Saturday accused the National Conference (NC) of supporting the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) during the recent Rajya Sabha elections in Jammu and Kashmir. He also announced that his party will begin a campaign against the ongoing reservation policy in the Union Territory.

Speaking at a press conference in Srinagar, Lone said that the current reservation structure was undermining merit in recruitment and education. “Open merit has been set aside. We are launching a public registration drive against this system. If protests or hunger strikes are needed, we are prepared for that,” he said.

Lone alleged that during the Rajya Sabha elections, NC legislators assisted the BJP in securing one of the four seats. “The extra votes that went to the BJP came from the NC. Seven of their members supported the BJP. This was not cross-voting from others; they did it themselves,” he said.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

He said that the outcome of the election showed that the NC and BJP were working together despite appearing as political rivals. “They accuse others of siding with the BJP, but their own actions reveal a different story,” Lone said.

The Peoples Conference chief also said that the Congress party was denied a fair opportunity in the elections. “The Congress should have been given a winnable seat, but NC offered them one that had no chance. A national party deserved better treatment,” he said.

Referring to past Rajya Sabha members from NC, Lone said that they had failed to bring any significant outcomes from Delhi. He added that his party chose to stay away from the election process. “I thank Almighty Allah that I abstained from voting. Otherwise, people would have accused me too,” Lone said.(KNS).
