New Delhi, Feb 20 (KNS):A national seminar on "Kashmiri Shaivism – Its Meaning and Significance” was recently organized by the National Mission for Unity and Brotherhood at the India International Centre in New Delhi. Scholars, experts, and spiritual thinkers gathered to discuss the history, philosophy, and cultural significance of Kashmiri Shaivism.
Speakers explained that Kashmiri Shaivism developed between the 6th and 11th centuries AD, during a time when Kashmir was a major center of learning known as Sharda Peeth. The philosophy of Shaivism became an important part of Kashmir’s spiritual traditions and even influenced the Muslim Rishi order, showing its role in promoting interfaith understanding.
The seminar explored the core beliefs of Kashmiri Shaivism, particularly the Pratyabhijna philosophy, which teaches that the universe is a reflection of Lord Shiva’s ultimate reality.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelExperts explained that this philosophy does not separate the subject and object; instead, it sees consciousness as one unified existence. The five stages of Shiva’s manifestation—Shiva, Shakti, SadaShiva, Ishwar, and Sadvidya—were also discussed.
Participants emphasized that Kashmiri Shaivism is not just a historical tradition but remains relevant today. They highlighted the need to preserve and study this spiritual philosophy to keep its rich cultural heritage alive.
The National Mission for Unity and Brotherhood expressed its commitment to promoting such discussions, encouraging further research and awareness of India’s ancient knowledge systems. The seminar concluded with a call for more engagement in understanding Kashmir’s intellectual and spiritual traditions. (KNS)
