Jammu, Oct 3 (KNS): The Jammu Division of Northern Railway has detected 6,617 cases during a month-long special ticket-checking drive, recovering Rs 48.88 lakh in railway revenue, officials said on Saturday.
The intensive drive was conducted from September 1 to 30 at major stations including Jammu Tawi, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra, Udhampur and Pathankot Cantt, besides various trains operating in the division.
According to the railway, a total of Rs 48,88,890 was realised from the cases detected during the drive.
The cases included ticketless and irregular travel, as well as violations related to smoking and littering on railway premises and trains, officials said.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
The drive was conducted under the supervision of the Senior Divisional Commercial Manager, Jammu, as part of efforts to strengthen ticket checking and curb ticketless and irregular travel.
The Jammu Division has appealed to passengers to travel with valid tickets, refrain from smoking on station premises and trains, and maintain cleanliness.
Railway authorities said travelling without a ticket, smoking and littering are punishable offences.(KNS)
