New Delhi, Feb 18 (KNS): Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah met Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi to discuss the implementation of the newly introduced criminal laws in the Union Territory.
Speaking after the meeting, Abdullah said the discussion focused on how the new laws are being implemented, the challenges faced, and the steps needed to improve the process. He noted that Jammu and Kashmir's performance in adopting these laws has been commendable, though there were certain areas requiring attention.
"It was a discussion with the Home Minister on the new criminal laws that have been implemented, how they are being implemented, and what the limitations are.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelIt was now the turn of J&K, and the discussion was regarding that. The HM mentioned that prior to this, reviews were conducted in 11 states," Abdullah stated.
He further highlighted that despite being a Union Territory, efforts must be made to raise public awareness about the new laws. "To an extent, J&K's role in implementing these laws has been good. There are a few points where we lacked, and it will be fixed. Since J&K is a UT, it is not our responsibility to implement the laws directly, but efforts should be made to make people aware. For that, elected governments need to do more," he said. (KNS)
