One Day Workshop on UAPA Cases Organized by RPHQ (NKR) at DPL Baramulla

Baramulla April 16 (KNS): A one-day workshop on “Investigation and Prosecution of Cases under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA)” was successfully organized today at DPL Baramulla, bringing together law enforcement officers and legal experts to deliberate on the complexities and best practices related to handling UAPA cases.


The workshop was inaugurated by Deputy Inspector General of Police  Maqsood-ul-Zaman-(IPS) accompanied by SSP District Baramulla Gurinderpal Singh-IPS. DIG NKR emphasized on the importance of Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act being one of the most significant legal tool available to law enforcement agencies. In his address, DIG NKR highlighted the challenges faced by investigating Officers in dealing with cases under the UAPA and the remedial strategies to be adopted for successful prosecution of cases in the Court’s.

The workshop is aimed to achieve a conviction rate of 90% within the next 05 years on the directions of Hon’ble UHM of India, as this is a part of boarder initiative to overhaul the nation’s legal framework and enhance the efficiency of law enforcement. While the Government’s commitment to reform is evident, the success of these initiatives will depend on effective implementation of new criminal & anti-terrorism laws and the resolution of existing challenge in a  time bound manner. Besides, to enhance the professional competence of police officers and investigators in effectively handling UAPA cases, in accordance with constitutional principles and procedural fairness.

Best Practices in Investigation and Evidence Collection
Role of Intelligence Inputs in UAPA Cases
Judicial Perspective and Case Law Analysis
Renowned speakers and subject matter experts including Shri Mohammad Ashraf (DDP Baramulla), Shri Hilal Ahmad (CPO SIA Kashmir), Shri Mohsin Hassan Khan (PP NIA, Court Kupwara) and Shri Akhter Rasool (PP NIA Court Baramulla) shared their insights and engaged with participants on real-life case studies, recent judicial pronouncements, and procedural safeguards.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

The event saw active participation from over 40 police officers and public prosecutors from across the districts of North Kashmir Range. Today’s workshop is a testament to our unwavering commitment to counter the multifaceted challenges posed by unlawful activities. By enhancing our investigative skills, deepening our legal knowledge, and fostering inter-agency collaboration, for being better equipped to safeguard our nation's sovereignty and maintenance of public order.

The workshop concluded with a vote of thanks by Shri. Maqsood-ul-Zaman (IPS), DIG NKR who reiterated the need for continued training and dialogue to ensure effective and just enforcement of anti-terror laws.(KNS)
