Kulgam, Dec 11(KNS): Four residential houses were completely destroyed in a massive overnight fire in Check Nagam village of Damhal Hajipora, Kulgam district, leaving four families homeless, officials said Wednesday.
The fire, which reportedly started in one house, quickly spread to three others, reducing them to ashes. Two cowsheds were also gutted in the blaze. Fire tenders were rushed to the scene, but the flames had already caused extensive damage before being brought under control.
"We lost everything within minutes. In this freezing weather, we have nothing left except the hope for help from the government," said a distressed local resident.
On the directions of Deputy Commissioner Kulgam, Athar Aamir Khan, SDM Noorabad Bashir Ul Hassan, along with a team of officials, visited the affected village to assess the situation and provide immediate relief.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
The SDM distributed essential kits, including utensils, blankets, and other necessities, to the affected families. He also assured the victims that a case under the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) is being prepared to provide further assistance.
Local officials, including the Tehsildar, accompanied the SDM during the visit. The district administration has promised to take all necessary measures to support the affected families in their rehabilitation.(KNS).
