Pakistan’s Asia Cup Participation Secured After ICC Standoff

Srinagar Sep 17 (KNS): The uncertainty over Pakistan’s continuation in the Asia Cup appears to be resolved following late-night negotiations over the Andy Pycroft issue.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) had threatened to pull out of the tournament if Pycroft, accused of siding with India during the September 14 clash, officiated in Wednesday’s knockout against the UAE. While the ICC refused to recall the Zimbabwean referee, sources say he has been taken off duty for this match, with Richie Richardson likely to step in.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

The compromise is believed to have been brokered through the intervention of the UAE and Oman cricket boards. Pycroft, however, will remain on the ICC’s roster for the rest of the tournament.

PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi, after consultations in Islamabad, confirmed that a final decision would be announced Wednesday, stressing that Pakistan’s interests would remain the top priority.
