CBK secures conviction of ex-Police officer for forging date of birth to extend service

Srinagar, Nov 10 (KNS):The Economic Offences Wing of the Crime Branch Kashmir has secured the conviction of former Sub-Inspector Jagdesh Singh, son of Kartar Singh, a resident of Atina, Budgam, for forging his date of birth to unlawfully extend his police service.

According to officials, the case was registered under FIR No. 32/2013 for offences under Sections 420, 468, 471, and 201 of the Ranbir Penal Code. Investigations revealed that Singh altered his year of birth from 1957 to 1959 in official records, including his Character Roll and matriculation certificate, to gain two additional years of service.

The Economic Offences Wing presented witnesses and documentary evidence that proved Singh’s involvement in the forgery.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelAfter examining the evidence, the Court of the City Judge, Srinagar, found him guilty under Sections 420, 511, and 468 RPC.

The court sentenced Singh to three years of simple imprisonment and a fine of ?5,000 under Section 420 read with 511 RPC, and another three years of simple imprisonment with a fine of ?5,000 under Section 468 RPC. Both sentences will run concurrently. In case of default in payment of fines, he will undergo an additional six months of simple imprisonment.

The Economic Offences Wing stated that it remains committed to taking strict legal action against anyone involved in fraud, forgery, or corruption, regardless of their position or rank.(KNS)
