PDP terms Breach of Privilege Notice Against Parra as an attempt to Muzzle Dissent

Srinagar, Nov 28(KNS): Former legislator and senior Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader Mohammad Khurshid Alam on Thursday criticized the ruling National Conference (NC) for serving a breach of privilege notice to PDP MLA Waheed ur Rahman Parra, calling the move arbitrary and an attempt to suppress the opposition’s voice.

In a statement, Alam said the NC-led government had betrayed the trust of the people who voted it into power, hoping for representation and transparency in the assembly. “By issuing such a notice, NC has taken a U-turn on its poll promises. What signal does it want to send by harassing an MLA for raising the people’s concerns in the house? Does NC consider this a crime?” Alam questioned.

He further accused the ruling party of behaving like a totalitarian regime.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel“Instead of upholding democratic values, NC seems determined to silence dissent. The PDP, despite its limited presence in the assembly, remains committed to speaking truth to power and representing the voiceless. These oppressive tactics will fail, just as draconian measures of the past. There is a need for democracy to survive and thrive at large,” Alam said.

Para in the assembly does not represent his constituency or the PDP only but the people of Kashmir, who have been reeling under distress and exposed to severe hardships. In Para, they have found a voice, and silencing that voice is criminal.(KNS).
