PM Modi to Virtually Inaugurate Jammu Railway Division Tomorrow

Jammu, Jan 5 (KNS): The establishment of the Jammu Railway Division, set to be inaugurated virtually by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday, is expected to significantly enhance connectivity and economic development in the region. The move fulfills a long-standing demand of the people and is seen as a major step towards improving railway services in Jammu and Kashmir.

The division, which will reorganize the existing Firozpur Division, brings a fresh focus on modern railway infrastructure and efficient train management. The restructured network will cover key routes, including the Pathankot-Jammu-Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla stretch, paving the way for improved passenger and freight transport. The total length of the new division will be 742.1 km, integrating vital railway lines crucial for regional mobility.

With the creation of this division, Jammu and Kashmir will see better management of its railway services, which is expected to boost trade, tourism, and employment opportunities. The division will play a crucial role in managing India’s highest railway arch bridge over the Chenab River in Reasi and the iconic Anji Khad Bridge, both engineering marvels designed to withstand extreme weather conditions.

Business leaders in Jammu have welcomed the development, stating that improved rail connectivity will strengthen trade links with the rest of the country. “This new division will bring efficiency in logistics and help local industries thrive,” said a member of the Jammu Chamber of Commerce.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

The division is set to introduce hi-tech infrastructure, including advanced signaling systems, modernized stations, and improved safety measures. Officials said the use of smart technology would enhance operational efficiency and reduce travel time.

Moreover, with the much-anticipated rail connectivity to Kashmir from Katra nearing completion, the division will facilitate seamless travel between the valley and the rest of the country. The final trial run for train services to Kashmir is scheduled for Tuesday, marking another milestone in the region’s railway expansion.

The addition of the Jammu Railway Division increases the total number of railway divisions in India to 70 under 17 zones, reflecting the government’s commitment to strengthening railway infrastructure nationwide. Railway authorities have indicated that the final jurisdiction details will be determined based on the Detailed Project Report.

The inauguration ceremony in Jammu will be attended by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, and Member of Parliament Jugal Kishore Sharma. Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh is also expected to be present at the event.

With the new division set to become operational, railway officials believe it will significantly improve connectivity, making Jammu and Kashmir a more accessible and economically vibrant region. (KNS)
