Tangdar, Kupwara, July 15, 2024 (KNS): Residents of Tangdar in the Karnah region of Kupwara district have taken to the streets, protesting against the deplorable condition of the PMGSY (Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana) road stretching from Tangdar to Tangdar Nard. The road, which is a vital link for the local population, has been plagued by deep potholes, sand accumulation, dust, and the absence of protective walls, posing serious safety hazards.
The locals, voicing their frustration, have demanded immediate blacktopping of the road and the construction of protective walls to prevent further deterioration and ensure the safety of commuters. The protesters highlighted that the lack of proper maintenance has made the road almost untraversable, significantly impacting their daily lives and economic activities.
"The condition of this road is horrendous. It’s filled with potholes and dust, making travel extremely difficult and dangerous, especially during the rainy season," said a local resident. The residents also emphasized the need for regular maintenance and timely interventions to prevent such situations from recurring in the future. They have called upon the concerned authorities to take swift and effective measures to address their grievances.
In response to the protests, local officials have assured the residents that their concerns will be addressed. "We are aware of the issues and are working on a plan to repair and improve the road. The blacktopping and construction of protective walls will be undertaken at the earliest possible," said an official from the P MG S Y Department while talking with Kashmir News Service (KNS).
As the protests continue, the residents remain hopeful that their demands will be met and that the authorities will prioritize the maintenance and development of crucial infrastructure in the region. (KNS)
