Residents of Sumber in Ramban Cry for Basic Amenities: Electricity, Education, and Healthcare Still Distant Dreams

Ramban, May 26 (KNS): Despite being just 45 kilometers from the district headquarters of Ramban, the remote area of Sumber remains deprived of basic amenities, leaving residents frustrated and concerned about their future.

Local villagers, voicing their growing distress, revealed that they have been forced to take matters into their own hands—laying dug-in electricity wires at their own expense—after repeated inaction from the administration. "We are receiving electricity bills every month, yet the government hasn’t provided official electricity poles or proper wiring," said one resident.

Promises by successive governments and local leaders have, so far, failed to materialize. A particularly pressing issue remains the lack of a higher secondary school in the area.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelStudents are compelled to travel long distances to Ramban or Baniyal for education beyond high school—a journey many cannot afford, resulting in discontinued studies and shattered dreams.

Health facilities are equally dismal. “There is no ambulance service in Sumber. In emergencies, we have no choice but to rely on private vehicles, risking lives due to delays,” lamented another resident.

The villagers have also called for the construction of a road to improve connectivity and have urged authorities to include Sumber on the tourism map, which they believe could open doors to economic opportunities.

In a heartfelt appeal to the government and district administration, the residents urged immediate intervention to address their long-pending demands. “We don’t seek luxury—just the basic facilities every citizen deserves,” they said.(KNS)
