Restoration of J&K Statehood a Matter of Justice, Constitutional Integrity: Irfan Hafeez Lone

Baramulla, Nov 26 (KNS): Congress leader and MLA Wagoora Kreeri, Advocate Irfan Hafeez Lone on  the occasion of India’s 75th Constitutional Day, said the importance of upholding the rule of law, the Constitution, and the principles of federalism, freedom of speech, and liberty. Quoting the Supreme Court's landmark Kesavananda Bharati judgment, he highlighted these values as the “soul” and “basic structure” of the Indian Constitution.

Irfan Hafeez Lone expressed concern over the manner in which Jammu and Kashmir's constitutional status was altered on August 5, 2019. He criticized the abrogation of Article 370, stating that it violated the spirit of federalism. “A historic state was downgraded to a Union Territory, and Ladakh was separated from us. This was a blatant violation of the Constitution,” he remarked.

He also criticized divisive politics, alleging that political strategies are being used to create rifts among communities.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelReferring to the Maharashtra elections, he condemned false narratives about Article 370 and Congress' position. “They repeat lies like Hitler to make them seem true,” he said, urging people to reject such tactics.

He stressed the importance of protecting the region’s land, jobs, and natural resources for its residents. “The Congress party stands for the rights of Jammu and Kashmir’s people and seeks national support for this cause,” he stated.

He urged the public to act wisely, highlighting that the restoration of the historic state of Jammu and Kashmir is not just a regional issue but a matter of justice and constitutional integrity. (KNS)
