Opposition protests resolution, Speaker orders marshals to remove BJP MLAs from House

Srinagar, Nov 07 (KNS): The Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly session witnessed chaos on Thursday, leading to an adjournment after BJP MLAs refused to settle down and stormed into the Well of the House.

The BJP was protesting the resolution on special status, passed by the government on Wednesday, demanding its immediate rollback.

Amid total commotion, Speaker Abdur Rahim Rather had no choice but to direct the marshals to remove the protesting BJP legislators, including R S Panthania, who were causing disruptions.

“Take those out of the House who try to come into the Well of the House,” the Speaker said. As BJP MLAs continued shouting slogans demanding the scrapping of the resolution, the Speaker reminded them, "This House is not a fish market. This is the Legislative Assembly."

Food Minister Satish Sharma strongly criticized the BJP, accusing them of neglecting Jammu’s problems, such as unemployment and a shattered economy, while continuing their protests in the House.

National Conference (NC) MLA Nazir Gurezi also joined in, accusing the BJP of not caring about Jammu’s development.

The situation escalated further when BJP MLA Shagun Parihar climbed onto a table in the Well of the House to register their protest.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelIn retaliation, members from the treasury benches raised slogans in support of the special status resolution, chanting “Jammu Kashmir ki awaz kya, 370 aur kya.”

The Speaker repeatedly requested the opposition to return to their seats, but the BJP refused to do so, insisting that the resolution passed the previous day be expunged from the records. In the face of continued disruptions, the Speaker adjourned the House until tomorrow, ending Day 4 of the ongoing session.

Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary and Food Minister Satish Sharma also took the opportunity to counter the BJP’s demands. Choudhary accused the BJP of double standards, saying they were responsible for the mess in Jammu and had sold out the region’s interests. Satish Sharma also criticized BJP for attempting to divide Jammu and Kashmir and reaffirmed that Jammu and Kashmir, including Ladakh, must stay united.

MLA Payare Lal warned the BJP that their dream of a separate Jammu would never come true, stressing that the people of Jammu were happy with the passing of the special status resolution.(KNS)
