Sakina Itoo inspects construction site of GMC Handwara,Visits SDH Kupwara

KUPWARA, Oct 31(KNS): The Minister of Health, Education and Social Welfare Sakina Itoo on Thursday visited the construction site of Government Medical College (GMC) Handwara and got a detailed appraisal of the site of the GMC and took assessment of the progress on its construction. She also paid a visit to SDH Kupwara to take stock of the facilities being provided to the patients.

At the construction site of GMC Handwara , the Minister was apprised that the under-construction GMC project costs Rs.325 crore and has 251 kanals of land in possession. 17 Nos of building are to be constructed for GMC and work is in progress on 11 buildings, work is in progress on 200 -bedded hospital building in the premises of DH Handwara. Executive Engineer R&B Handwara , Farooq Ahmed Shah apprised the Minister that an expenditure of 30 crore has been made till date.

The minister’s visit included discussions with administration, doctors and Medical staff to learn about the issues pertaining to the construction of GMC.

While talking to Kashmir News Service (KNS), the Minister said that the purpose of her visit was to check the construction site, its feasibility, so that further decisions are taken for the execution of the project.

Minister also paid a visit to Sub district Hospital Kupwara and inspected various sections of the hospital including wards, ICU, Paediatrics (NICU), General Medical ward, CT-Scan, Dialysis Unit. Minister expressed satisfaction with the quality of treatment being provided to the doctors at SDH Kupwara.

Minister also interacted with the doctors and medical staff and directed them to work with more dedication and ensure that all patients especially coming from far-flung areas are provided better health care facilities.

While interacting with doctors and para- medical staff, the Minister said that accommodation, infrastructure and other facilities at SDH Kupwara will be upgraded on priority basis, as this hospital caters to far-off areas of the district and has a huge flow of patients.
