SKIMS Medical College Promotes Mental Health Awareness Through Interactive Session at Women’s College Srinagar

Srinagar, 04 Nov (KNS) : As part of the ongoing Mental Health Awareness Month (October 10 – November 10), the Advanced Centre for Mental Health and Addiction Medicine, Department of Psychiatry, SKIMS Medical College, Srinagar, organized an awareness lecture on “Stress, Self-Harming Behaviours & Prevention” with students of the Department of Psychology at Government College for Women, M.A. Road, Srinagar.

The session commenced with a Keynote Address by Prof. (Dr.) Abdul Majid, Head of the Department of Psychiatry at SKIMS Medical College, urged psychology students to act as ambassadors of mental health by dispelling myths and misconceptions about psychological illnesses. He emphasised the importance of adopting a positive, balanced lifestyle—ensuring adequate sleep, a healthy diet, social connectedness, abstaining from addictive substances, and engaging in regular physical activity — to maintain overall well-being.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

Following the keynote, Ms Nighta and Ms Insha, Clinical Psychologists, delivered insightful talks on stress management, highlighting effective strategies for prevention, early intervention, and coping mechanisms for psychological distress.

An interactive question-and-answer session concluded the program, with enthusiastic student participation and open discussions on mental health challenges faced by today’s youth.

In her concluding remarks, Prof. Naureen, Department of Psychology, expressed heartfelt gratitude to Prof. Abdul Majid, Head, Department of Psychiatry, and Prof. Fazlul Qadir Parray, Principal, SKIMS Medical College, for their collaboration and support. She appreciated the initiative and expressed hope for more such joint efforts aimed at fostering mental health awareness and resilience among students and the wider community.(KNS)
