Srinagar, Dec 14 (KNS): The introduction of Smart City Buses outfitted with cutting-edge technology, is heralding a revolutionary transformation in Srinagar's transportation system.
The Smart City Buses, part of Srinagar's initiative to become a more connected and technologically advanced city, come with a host of features aimed at enhancing passenger comfort and convenience.
These buses are not merely a mode of transportation; they represent a leap forward in providing a seamless and efficient commuting experience for the people of Srinagar.
The buses are fitted with state-of-the-art GPS systems, allowing commuters to track their bus in real-time through mobile applications. This feature ensures that passengers can plan their journeys more effectively, minimizing wait times at bus stops and improving overall punctuality.
Commuters have expressed their appreciation for the modern amenities inside the buses, including comfortable seating, air conditioning, and Wi-Fi connectivity. These features not only make the travel experience more pleasant but also enable passengers to stay connected during their journeys.
Local resident Hina Shah, a daily commuter, shared her thoughts on the new buses, saying, “The introduction of Smart City Buses has made a significant difference in our daily lives. The convenience of tracking the bus has truly transformed the way we commute.”
“Government initiatives aimed at revamping the public transport infrastructure, coupled with strategic investments, have breathed new life into the red and green buses, making them a preferred mode of travel for residents across the Kashmir region. Commuters are increasingly opting for these buses, recognizing the convenience, affordability, and eco-friendly nature they bring to the transportation landscape,” Mohmmad Aslam, a senior citizen in Srinagar told KNS.
He said that the resurgent fleet of red and green buses is not only enhancing connectivity within urban areas but also addressing the transportation needs of remote and underserved areas.
Infrastructure upgrades, streamlined routes, and the incorporation of technology for better scheduling and tracking have contributed to the newfound strength of the public transport system.
As more people choose public transport, the region is likely to experience a decrease in vehicular emissions, aligning with broader sustainability goals.
“As these buses regain their status on the roads, they carry not just passengers but also the promise of a more efficient, accessible, and environmentally friendly transportation future for Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory,” the commuters said.
City officials and transportation authorities are optimistic about the positive impact of these changes.
“The once beleaguered public transport system is now regaining its vigor, proving that strategic planning and innovative solutions can breathe new life into neglected infrastructure.Commuters, especially those who endured the challenges of the evening rush, are now experiencing a palpable sense of relief.
The combined forces of e-rickshaws and colorful buses have not only eased their daily commutes but have also instilled confidence in the city's commitment to fostering a robust and sustainable public transportation system,” a transport official, wishing not to be named, told KNS.
It is worth mentioning here that the government led by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha had introduced 100 electric buses into Srinagar's public transport system.
Lieutenant Governor had highlighted their pivotal role in reducing pollution, improving air quality, and enhancing the overall quality of life for the city's residents.
An environmentalist emphasized that the deployment of electric buses not only marks a victory for the environment but also presents a promising economic opportunity. The buses, being both energy-efficient and cost-effective to operate and maintain, hold the potential for substantial savings for the local government, redirecting funds towards other essential services.
The officials managing the Srinagar Smart City's Electric Buses Project stated that this initiative is an integral part of the city's broader vision to create a more livable and sustainable urban environment. (KNS)
