Srinagar, Jan 4 (KNS): Large parts of Kashmir Valley experienced sub-zero minimum temperatures overnight, with Gulmarg emerging as the coldest place in the region, officials said on Sunday.
According to data compiled by Kashmir Weather, the minimum temperature in Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, settled at minus 3.2 degrees Celsius, while the nearby Srinagar airport recorded a lower minimum of minus 4.2 degrees Celsius. Awantipora in south Kashmir also logged a minimum of minus 4.2 degrees Celsius.
Gulmarg, the famous ski resort in north Kashmir, recorded a low of minus 6.5 degrees Celsius, making it the coldest reported location in the Valley. Shopian followed closely at minus 6.0 degrees Celsius, while Pulwama registered minus 5.1 degrees Celsius. Anantnag recorded a minimum of minus 4.6 degrees Celsius.
Qazigund and Pahalgam, key towns in south Kashmir, both recorded minimum temperatures of minus 4.0 degrees Celsius. Pampore settled at minus 3.0 degrees Celsius, while Budgam and Baramulla each recorded minus 3.3 degrees Celsius.
Kupwara in north Kashmir saw the mercury dip to minus 2.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel5 degrees Celsius, while Ganderbal recorded minus 2.0 degrees Celsius. Bandipora reported a comparatively higher minimum of minus 1.2 degrees Celsius.
In the Jammu region, night temperatures remained significantly higher, it said. Jammu city recorded a minimum of 10.0 degrees Celsius, while the airport logged 10.3 degrees Celsius. Kathua also recorded a minimum of 7.0 degrees Celsius, the same as Katra.
Banihal, the gateway between Jammu and Kashmir, recorded a sub-zero minimum of minus 0.9 degrees Celsius. Bhaderwah registered minus 1.6 degrees Celsius, while Batote and Doda both settled at 1.9 degrees Celsius.
Ramban recorded a minimum of 2.3 degrees Celsius, Rajouri 2.5 degrees Celsius and Kishtwar 2.9 degrees Celsius. Udhampur logged 5.2 degrees Celsius, while Reasi recorded 8.8 degrees Celsius.
In Ladakh, Leh recorded a biting minimum temperature of minus 11.0 degrees Celsius, officials said.(KNS).
