Srinagar January 14 (KNS) The Forum of Ophthalmic Teachers of India (FOTI), a distinguished scientific body comprising renowned Ophthalmic educators from across the nation, presented the esteemed Sushrut Samman to Dr. Reyaz Untoo.
The award ceremony took place during the 8th National Assembly held recently by Forum of Ophthalmic Teachers of India under the aegesis of Eye Research Foundation,Advanced Eye Center PGIMER Chandigarh Sushrut Samman, the highest recognition bestowed by FOTI, is an accolade presented annually to individuals who have demonstrated exceptional contributions to the field of ophthalmology.
This year, the honor was conferred upon Dr. Reyaz Untoo and few others from various parts of the country, acknowledging his outstanding achievements and dedication to the advancement of ophthalmic education and practice.
The 8th National Assembly, hosted at Mount view Chandigarh, provided a platform for leading minds in ophthalmology to convene and discuss the latest advancements in the field and steps to improve the teaching of undergraduates and Postgraduates in India.
The award was given by the Padam Bhushan Awardee,Dr K.

Dr. Reyaz Untoo,former Head of Ophthalmology and Former Principal of SKIMS Medical College Srinagar, has earlier received the State award for meritorious public services ,besides other awards like Bharat Garav Award,IMA Presidents Award for his outstanding contribution in Ophthalmic Sciences where he as Former Chairperson of the Committee in Kashmir for National Programme for Control of Blindness too contributed remarkably besides in the field of Rehablitation as Director of the CRC Srinagar under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment Govt of India during 2008-2011.
He expressed his gratitude upon receiving the Sushrut Samman. He emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts in advancing ophthalmic knowledge and importance of standardizing Medical education across the country as teachers have a very important role to play and thanked the Forum of Ophthalmic Teachers of India for recognizing his contributions.(KNS)
