Srinagar, 30 Dec (KNS) : The Jammu and Kashmir Chief Spokesperson and MLA Zadibal, Tanvir Sadiq, today inaugurated the first and only 2 MGD (Million Gallons per Day) Advanced Activated Carbon Filter at Pokhribal Badamwari, Zadibal, marking a major milestone in strengthening drinking water infrastructure for downtown Srinagar.
In a statement issued, Speaking on the occasion, Sadiq said the commissioning of this state-of-the-art filtration system reflects a firm commitment to ensuring clean, safe, tested, and transparent drinking water, which he termed a basic right of every citizen. He stated that the new facility will effectively address long-pending issues related to odour and colour in water supply while meeting the increasing local demand.
Sadiq noted that large parts of downtown Srinagar have historically faced challenges in water quality, particularly during peak seasons, and the installation of the Advanced Activated Carbon Filter would bring much-needed relief to thousands of households.

“This project is not just about infrastructure; it is about dignity, health, and trust. People deserve clean and reliable drinking water, and we are committed to delivering it through modern, scientific, and sustainable solutions,” Sadiq said.
The MLA further stated that the Advanced Activated Carbon technology will significantly enhance water treatment by removing impurities responsible for bad taste, odour, and discoloration, thereby ensuring better acceptance and confidence among consumers.
He also appreciated the efforts of the Public Health Engineering Department for completing the project and stressed the importance of regular monitoring and maintenance to ensure its long-term efficiency.
“Our focus is not limited to inaugurations alone. We will ensure continuous quality checks, proper upkeep, and accountability so that the benefits of this facility reach every household it is meant for,” he added.(KNS)
