Srinagar, April 2 (KNS)The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) has issued a whip to all its Members of Parliament in the Lok Sabha, directing them to be present and support the government’s stand when the Waqf Amendment Bill 2024 is introduced on April 2.
A three-line whip was issued by G. M. Harish Balayogi, TDP’s chief whip in the Lok Sabha, instructing all 16 TDP MPs to remain in the House throughout the day and vote in favor of the bill. "This directive comes in light of the scheduled introduction of the Waqf Bill, which is expected to be a matter of significant discussion in the House. The party remains committed to ensuring that its stance on this important legislation is effectively represented," the TDP, a key partner in the BJP-led NDA government, said in a statement according to KNS correspondent.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
Despite opposition from various Muslim leaders and organizations, including the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB), the TDP has chosen to back the amendments proposed by the Narendra Modi-led government. Muslim leaders had earlier met Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and TDP chief N. Chandrababu Naidu, urging him to oppose the bill, arguing that it would harm Waqf properties and hurt the sentiments of the Muslim community. However, the TDP’s latest move signals its firm alignment with the NDA government on this issue. (KNS)
