Srinagar, Sept 5 (KNS): President Droupadi Murmu on Saturday called upon teachers to nurture generations driven by scientific temper, concern for human welfare and the spirit of “Nation First”, saying their sacred responsibility extends beyond academics to shaping good human beings.

In an article titled “Shaping Minds, Building the Future” on the occasion of Teachers’ Day, Murmu said students who achieve prosperity and dignity while upholding ethical values in their thoughts and actions represent the true success of a teacher.

She said India was steadily moving towards its goal of becoming a developed nation with social inclusion as a key priority, and teachers had a crucial role in the journey as they shape the intellectual and moral character of future generations.

The President urged teachers to nurture students who understand the importance of the country’s cultural heritage and traditions, adopt a scientific outlook, work for the welfare of humanity, promote the concept of Antyodaya, protect the environment and all living beings, and strive for both individual and collective progress.

She also called upon teachers to instil in students a “Nation First” spirit so that they can discharge their responsibilities towards nation-building and development more effectively.

Murmu said parents and guardians place immense trust in teachers when they send their children to school, expecting educators to treat them like their own children and take responsibility for their safety, education and overall development.

The President urged teachers to ensure that their attitude, conduct and behaviour do not create fear or anxiety among children. Their conduct, she said, should neither undermine students’ confidence nor make them develop a sense of inferiority.

A good teacher helps students realise their full potential and equips them to achieve their best in life, Murmu said.

She emphasised that encouraging independent thinking, nurturing curiosity, promoting the habit of asking questions and strengthening students’ ability to debate, reason and make decisions were among the most important and fulfilling aspects of teaching.

Such encouraging and creative education, she said, would help the country produce successful entrepreneurs, capable scientists, creative artists and responsible citizens equipped to find innovative solutions to the challenges of the future.

Recalling the role played by her own teachers, Murmu said a loving and dedicated teacher could awaken the immense potential within a student and inspire them to move forward.

She said encouragement from teachers gives students the courage to face the most difficult circumstances and the confidence to pursue even the most ambitious goals.

Teachers, she noted, are not merely responsible for completing the syllabus but play a far greater role in shaping the personality and future of their students.

The President also appealed to all citizens to always hold sincere and hardworking teachers in the highest regard. (KNS)
