Srinagar, March 8 (KNS): On International Women’s Day, CPI(M) leader and MLA Kulgam, Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami, said that truly celebrating Women’s Day means not only recognizing women’s achievements but also addressing gender inequality and discrimination in society.
While addressing a group of activists affiliated with Womens Association of Kashmir, he said that real empowerment comes from ensuring women have equal opportunities in all fields and that their voices are heard in decision-making processes.
“The best way to celebrate this day is by reaffirming that men and women are equal partners in shaping a better and more just world,” Tarigami said.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
He also raised concerns over the plight of thousands of women working as Anganwadi Workers, Helpers in the ICDS, and ASHAs under the NHM.
Tarigami urged the government to address the issue of meager honorariums or incentives for these workers, which are often delayed, causing financial hardships. Despite their crucial role in providing healthcare and early childhood services, their contributions remain undervalued.
He called for urgent policy changes to ensure timely and fair wages for these workers and stressed that the struggle for women's rights should be a collective effort involving all sections of society.(KNS)
