Wildlife Department Cracks Down on Poaching at Wular Lake

Srinagar, Dec 11(KNS): The Department of Wildlife Protection, Wetland Division, has launched a series of raids in the Srinagar area following social media videos allegedly showing individuals involved in poaching activities at Wular Lake.

The videos depicted individuals with firearms, prompting immediate action from the authorities.

In an operation conducted on December 10, the department raided multiple locations to apprehend those allegedly involved. During the raids, one individual from the Habak area of Srinagar was arrested, and a firearm was seized from his residence. In a parallel search operation at Lal Bazar, various hunting decoys and gear reportedly used in illegal activities were also confiscated.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

Deputy Conservator Wetlands, Altaf Hussain, stated that an investigation into the matter has commenced, and summons have been issued to other suspects for further inquiry.


“The department is committed to taking strict action against poaching and ensuring the protection of wildlife,” Hussain said, emphasizing a policy of zero tolerance toward illegal activities in protected areas.

The raids are being seen as a significant step in combating poaching activities and preserving the ecological balance of the region's wetlands.(KNS).
