Immediate Action Needed to Ensure Public Safety

Srinagar, January 6 (KNS): Youth JK Peoples Conference President, Mudasir Karim, today expressed deep concern over the alarming rise in stray dog attacks in Kashmir. The latest incident in Budgam, where 15 people were brutally attacked, highlights the government's failure to address this crisis.

He said that the situation is dire, with elders, children, and women afraid to venture outdoors, especially during peak hours when stray dogs are most active. "Kashmir's stray dog menace has reached catastrophic levels!" he exclaimed, emphasizing the urgent need for action. This sentiment echoes the frustration and fear felt by many Kashmiris who are tired of living in fear of these ferocious animals.

Mudasir Karim further stated that "today's shocking incident in Budgam, where 15 people were brutally attacked, is a stark reminder of the government's failure to address this crisis." He lamented that despite repeated sterilization efforts, the stray dog population continues to thrive, posing a significant threat to public safety. The attacks are particularly severe during the winter months, when the dogs are unable to find enough food due to snowfall, making them even more aggressive and desperate.

The existing methods of catching dogs are outdated and ineffective, with municipal corporations like Srinagar Municipal Corporation struggling to cope due to understaffing and lack of resources.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelThe use of nets to catch dogs is not only inhumane but also inefficient, often resulting in the dogs escaping and attacking again. This has led to a growing sense of frustration and fear among the public.

Furthermore, the health, economic and social impacts of this crisis cannot be overstated. Many people are being forced to stay indoors, unable to go out for walks, resulting in deterioration of one’s health. The psychological trauma caused by these attacks is also a significant concern, with many victims requiring medical attention and counseling.

He demanded that the authorities take immediate action to tackle this menace and ensure our streets are safe for everyone. The government must adopt modern solutions, increase funding and resources for municipal corporations, and implement a comprehensive dog catching and effective sterilisation program to prevent further population growth. He also emphasized the need for the government to provide medical attention and counseling to victims of stray dog attacks.(KNS)
