Srinagar, Sep 18 (KNS): President of Jammu and Kashmir People's Democratic Front (JKPDF) and former Cabinet Minister Hakeem Mohammad Yaseen has extended full support to the agitating NHM employees and urged the Government and LG Administration to resolve their genuine demands on a priority basis.
Addressing the media, Hakeem Yaseen said health and education are the most vital priority sectors and the Government must pay serious attention towards them.
"The demands of NHM employees are completely genuine and must be fulfilled without any further delay. Our health sector is already reeling under shortage of infrastructure and doctors, and the ongoing strike has further hit patient care badly. There should be no disruption in such a vital and life-saving sector," he said.
He said that while everyone expresses sympathy with the employees, it is only the Government which has the power to resolve the issue and it must act immediately keeping in view the precarious ground situation in Jammu and Kashmir.
He said liver-related diseases have assumed alarming proportions in Kashmir and are often detected at the last stage. Hundreds of poor patients are forced to go outside J&K for liver transplant, bearing huge expenses, and many die for want of timely treatment and financial resources.
"Our doctors are highly qualified and competent, but our health infrastructure is still not at par with other states. Poor patients cannot afford travel, prolonged stay and expensive treatment outside. An attempt was made a few years ago to create infrastructure for liver transplant at SKIMS, but it was stalled for unknown reasons," Hakeem Yaseen said.
"I strongly appeal to the Government to establish a dedicated Liver Transplant Unit at SKIMS, Soura on priority to save the precious lives of poor and helpless patients. Other small works can wait, but this life-saving facility is urgently needed," he added.
He expressed hope that the Government will pay serious and immediate attention to this critical humanitarian issue. (KNS)
