Karnah, Kupwara, May 13 (KNS): Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Tuesday said that the Jammu and Kashmir government will explore the possibility of constructing individual bunkers for residents living in border areas and will take up the proposal with the central government. He made these remarks during his visit to the shelling-affected areas of Karnah in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.

“Wherever I went, people had only one demand — individual bunkers,” Omar told reporters. “Community bunkers exist but they are far from homes. When shelling starts, it’s risky for people to run long distances. There must be safety at their doorstep.”

He added, “We will frame a policy, design a scheme for individual bunkers in border and LOC areas, and then place the proposal before the central government for support.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

Deputy Commissioner Kupwara accompanied the CM and is conducting a detailed damage assessment. Omar Abdullah assured that compensation will follow based on the final report.

Speaking on the ongoing ceasefire agreement, the Chief Minister remarked, “People who live near the LOC — whether in Karnah, Jammu, or Srinagar — want the ceasefire to hold. Only those sitting far away in TV studios in Noida or Mumbai don’t understand its importance.” (KNS)
