Srinagar, Sep 27 (KNS): Leader of Opposition in the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly and BJP leader Sunil Sharma on Sunday claimed that the BJP was the only party committed to restoring full statehood to Jammu and Kashmir, while accusing Chief Minister Omar Abdullah of undermining the process.

‎Speaking to reporters, Sharma said that Omar Abdullah had himself “sabotaged” the process of restoration of statehood by bringing the reference to the pre-1953 position into the current resolution.
‎
‎“What was the need for the pre-1953 position, which he brought through a resolution in 2000?” Sharma asked.
‎
‎Referring to the 2000 autonomy resolution passed during the government of Omar’s father, Farooq Abdullah, Sharma said the BJP-led government had rejected it during Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s tenure as Prime Minister.

‎“The resolution of 2000, which Omar Abdullah threw in the dustbin in our government, in the BJP government, he did not hide it from anyone,” Sharma said.

‎He said the earlier resolution passed by the Assembly under Farooq Abdullah had subsequently been rejected, and questioned its reference in the fresh statehood resolution.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

‎“The resolution that was rejected, why was it mentioned here?” Sharma asked.
‎
‎The BJP leader alleged that the reference was intended to create a controversy around the statehood issue.
‎
‎“That means they want to sabotage it. They don't want to give statehood, but we are committed,” he said.
‎
‎Sharma asserted that the BJP would continue to support restoration of statehood and said a BJP government would fulfil the commitment.
‎
‎“No matter how many conspiracies are made, the government of the Bharatiya Janata Party will give statehood to Jammu and Kashmir,” he said.
‎
‎He, however, did not give a specific timeline for restoration of statehood.
‎
‎“I don't have the date to tell you, but don't worry. No party wants statehood other than the BJP,” Sharma said.
‎
‎He said that the BJP would restore statehood “very soon”.(KNS)
