‎Srinagar, Sep 29 (KNS): As many as 586 candidates have been recommended by the Jammu and Kashmir Public Service Commission for appointment against 594 lecturer posts referred to it, but appointment orders have so far been issued to only 327 candidates, according to a government reply submitted in the Legislative Assembly.

‎The figures were disclosed by the School Education Department in response to a question by Chenani MLA Balwant Singh Mankotia seeking details of recruitment, appointments, promotions and vacancies in the education sector.

‎According to the government, 594 lecturer posts in different disciplines were referred to the J&K Public Service Commission. Against these posts, the Commission has recommended 586 candidates for appointment.
‎
‎However, the department said appointment orders have been issued to 327 candidates after completion of the required formalities, while the process relating to their adjustments and postings is underway.
‎
‎The reply also said appointment orders in favour of the remaining selected candidates would be issued after completion of the prescribed formalities.
‎
‎The department has separately disclosed that 96 teachers have been appointed in different districts of Jammu Division since 2024.
‎
‎The figures show that recruitment and appointment in the school education sector are progressing through separate stages, with selection by the Public Service Commission not immediately translating into appointment orders for all recommended candidates.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

‎The government also informed the House that 3,325 teaching and non-teaching posts were filled through promotions in Jammu Division during the last two years. These included 1,170 teaching posts, 2,155 non-teaching posts and promotions to 3,325 posts in total.

‎In Kashmir Division, the government said 785 Masters and Teachers were transferred during the last two years. The annexure shows 752 teachers were promoted or confirmed during 2024-25 and 212 during 2025-26, while 197 teachers were assigned look-after charge as Masters during the two years.

‎The government also provided district-wise vacancy figures for teaching and non-teaching posts in the Chenani constituency. Against 1,691 sanctioned teaching posts, 1,220 were shown as in position and 471 as vacant. For non-teaching posts, 304 were sanctioned, 111 were in position and 193 were vacant.

‎On transfers of Rehbar-e-Taleem teachers, the department said a draft transfer policy had been prepared and was under examination after receiving inputs from stakeholders. It said the draft policy was circulated for examination and suggestions and was being examined for necessary action.

‎The government also said a total of 174 inter-district transfer cases were pending, with such cases being examined as per the prescribed policy and availability of vacancies.(KNS)
